Purpose	To provide basic data required for the establishment of various policies by the central and local governments, establishment of management plans by private enterprises, research activities by academies and research institutes by understanding the structure and characteristics of establishments by region. To provide the population for various surveys on establishments.

History	1994: The first survey Contents of revision (survey object, item, method, base year, classification, and others) 1994: Approved for the production of statistics by 15 provinces Dec, 1995: Approved for the production of Census on Basic Characteristics of Establishments (Approval No. 10137) Jan. 1996: Change in survey items (deleted 'head office + factory' in establishment classification) and surveyed organizations with public officials Jan. 1997: Change in survey items (classified the number of worker by gender) Feb. 1997: Integrated the Census on Basic Characteristics of Establishments into the Wholesale, Retail Trade and Service Industry Census Nov. 1997: Approved for the production of Census on Basic Characteristics of Establishments in Ulsan Metropolitan City (Approval No. 20702) Jan. 1998: Change in survey items (classified CEOs by gender, and made a new category for unpaid family workers) Jan. 1999: Change in survey items (to survey head offices in case of factories and branch offices) Jan. 2000: Change in survey items (added changes of establishments) Apr. 2002: Integrated the Census on Basic Characteristics of Establishments into the Wholesale, Retail Trade and Service Industry Census Jan. 2003: Change in survey items (added business registration number) 2006: Integrated the Census on Basic Characteristics of Establishments into the Service Industry Census 2008: Application of the 9th revision of the Korean Standard Industrial Classification 2009: Integrated the Census on Establishments into the Census on Economy
