| Purpose |
To provide basic data necessary for making fishery policies, for example the demand and supply of fishery products, the recovery project of fishery resources and distance waters fisheries, and carrying out academic researches by identifying the production of adjacent waters fisheries, inland waters fisheries and distant waters fisheries. |

| History |
- 1948: The Fisheries Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry carried out the first survey.
- 1966: The Fishery Administration Bureau of the Fisheries Agency kept carrying out the survey.
- 1970: The statistical production was transferred to the Statistical Production Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
- Aug. 1996: The statistical production was transferred to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries.
- Jul. 1, 1998: The statistical production was transferred to the Statistics Korea.
- Jan. 1, 2003: The statistical production was transferred to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries.
- Feb. 29, 2008: The statistical production was transferred to the Statistics Korea as a result of government restructuring.
- Oct. 24, 2008: Changed the Korean survey title
